Image Comics Unveils Final Fantasy-Inspired "Lost Fantasy"

Curt Pires returns to Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, inspired by JRPG classics

Lost Fantasy marks Pires' creative reunion with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The debut issue showcases cover art by Casalanguida alongside contributions from Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series will also feature Indigo Children: Exodus, a serialized epilogue to Pires' sci-fi saga Indigo Children.

Here's Image Comics' official synopsis:

Lost Fantasy unveils a hidden magical realm beneath our world, where first contact occurred a century ago after a cataclysm tore dimensional barriers. Since then, an elite force called The Great Hunters has secretly policed these fractures, protecting humanity from shadow-dwelling creatures. When a Montana massacre reveals new breaches, rookie hunter Henry Blackheart must confront a threat that will reshape both worlds.

"Returning to Image with Lost Fantasy feels incredible," Pires tells IGN. "This series blends Western comics like East of West with the rich storytelling of JRPGs that defined my youth. Our protagonist's spiky hair and massive sword pay direct tribute to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic Cloud design from Final Fantasy."

The writer adds, "The 'Lost' in our title subtly honors Hironobu Sakaguchi's brilliant but overlooked Lost Odyssey - his post-Final Fantasy masterpiece. This project is fundamentally a love letter to JRPGs."

PlayLost Fantasy #1 arrives on April 30, 2025.
