Square Enix recently hosted the NieR 15th Anniversary Livestream, unveiling a series of exciting events and updates to honor the beloved franchise. From a new online special novel to exhibitions, concerts, and exclusive merchandise, there’s plenty in store for fans. Dive into the details of the anniversary celebration and the newly launched Re[in]carnation developer blog.
As part of the 15th-anniversary festivities, Square Enix introduced NieR: [U]ndecided Option, an exclusive online special novel. The story unfolds in three parts, with the first chapter already live. The second and third installments are set to release on April 25 and May 2, respectively. Described as a tale where “a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided,” the novel promises to expand the enigmatic lore fans have come to love.
To centralize all anniversary content, Square Enix launched the official NieR 15th Anniversary website. This hub will host the special novel and serve as the go-to destination for future updates, events, and projects tied to the milestone celebration.
An immersive exhibition is scheduled to take place at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing never-before-seen artwork of protagonists from NieR: Replicant, NieR: Automata, and NieR Re[in]carnation. While ticket details and exact dates are still pending, more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
Music fans can look forward to additional performances of the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024. New dates have been added for Osaka on July 25 and 26, followed by Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are currently available through a lottery system—visit the concert’s official website for full details.
On the merchandise front, several high-quality items are in the pipeline. These include a studio jazz album from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024, the NieR Weapon Story book featuring over 650 in-depth weapon narratives across the series, and meticulously crafted scale figures of the franchise’s iconic protagonists.
In a surprising move, Square Enix announced a new developer blog for NieR Re[in]carnation, the series’ first mobile entry. The blog will debut on April 28 and deliver monthly insights throughout the year, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s creation.
Originally launched in January 2021, Re[in]carnation was discontinued in April 2024 due to ongoing monetization challenges. The sudden launch of a developer blog for a shut-down title has sparked widespread speculation among fans, with many theorizing the possibility of a sequel, remake, or spiritual successor. However, Square Enix has not confirmed any such plans at this time.
The livestream concluded with a powerful 20+ minute live performance, featuring orchestral renditions of iconic tracks from across the NieR series. With more events, reveals, and collectibles on the horizon, the celebration is far from over. Stay tuned to the official anniversary site for the latest updates.
