Nintendo has just confirmed a postponement for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
The gaming icon Shigeru Miyamoto shared an official update today via social media, explaining the team needs "additional time" to polish the film to perfection.
Originally slated for March 26, 2027, the movie now moves to May 7, 2027 - a premium release date recently vacated by Marvel's delayed Avengers: Secret Wars.
"This is Miyamoto," reads the statement. "Due to production considerations, we're adjusting the release of The Legend of Zelda live-action film to May 7, 2027."
"While this extends our original timeline by several weeks, we're committed to using this extra time to deliver the best possible version. We appreciate your understanding."
While Nintendo hasn't detailed specific reasons for the delay, the new date cleverly capitalizes on Marvel's abandoned summer spot while avoiding March's crowded lineup that includes Sonic The Hedgehog 4 and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Announced in late 2023, the ambitious project brings together Nintendo's Miyamoto and Marvel veteran Avi Arad as producers, with Sony Pictures handling distribution. The creative team includes Jurassic World screenwriter Derek Connolly and director Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes).
Ball recently hinted at his vision for the film, emphasizing a "grounded yet magical" approach rather than full motion-capture. "This needs to feel tangible and authentic," the director explained, "while capturing the franchise's sense of wonder and adventure that fans cherish."
