Nintendo has unveiled our first detailed look at Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridges ahead of the console's launch next month.
A recent video from Nintendo Today showcases the official Switch 2 carrying case, featuring slots designed to securely hold up to six cartridges from both Switch generations.
As previously confirmed, Switch 2 cartridges maintain the same size and shape as their predecessors, ensuring compatibility with a single cartridge slot for both console versions. However, one notable change stands out: the new cartridges feature a red design.
The red coloring appears standardized across all Switch 2 cartridges, not limited to the Mario Kart World edition shown in the presentation. (For viewers without the Nintendo Today app, OatmealDome's Twitter post below offers an alternative look.)
The cartridge's printed sticker also displays an updated Switch 2 logo, replacing the original Nintendo Switch branding.

Beyond these visual updates, Switch 2 cartridges remain functionally identical - including the bitter-tasting coating Nintendo applies to prevent accidental ingestion.
"Consumer safety remains our priority," Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta explained to GameSpot. "We've ensured the coating creates an immediate reaction that discourages putting cartridges in one's mouth."
