Bethesda recently wrapped up its official announcement livestream for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, confirming the game is out now. During the stream, the team highlighted the game's significant visual and technical enhancements over the original. However, many players may be disappointed to learn that the remaster will not officially support mods.
According to a support page on Bethesda's official site, Oblivion Remastered will not feature official mod support. The company provided no specific reason for this decision, which comes as a surprise given Bethesda's longstanding history of supporting modders, having released official Creation Kits for titles like Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield.
Despite the lack of official tools, the modding community is already experimenting with the original game's Creation Kit to get mods running. Early reports suggest many mods are functioning well with the remaster. On Reddit, modders are sharing strategies for adapting their work to the new Unreal Engine 5 framework.

Even without official mod support, resourceful players have already brought Oblivion Remastered to VR. Just hours after launch, the UEVR (Universal Unreal Engine VR) mod tool was used to make the game playable in virtual reality. YouTuber LunchAndVR has shared an early test video showcasing Oblivion Remastered running in VR with motion controls, describing it as "very early tests."
The playtest ran smoothly, achieving around 70 frames per second at medium graphics settings with DLSS enabled on a high-end PC (RTX 4090 and Intel Core i9-13900). This performance indicates that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a solid VR experience.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (including Xbox Game Pass), and PC. For the latest news and updates on the game, be sure to check out our coverage below!
