HBO's The Last of Us Season 2: April Premiere Confirmed, New Trailer Unveiled

Sony's CES 2025 showcase delivered exciting news for fans of The Last of Us: Season 2 is officially premiering in April on HBO. A new trailer offered glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and the memorable Dina and Ellie dance scene. However, co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that the game's sequel storyline might span three seasons, suggesting this adaptation won't be a complete retelling of The Last of Us Part II.

The recently released trailer, clocking in at just over a minute, highlights action sequences and emotionally resonant moments from the game. The trailer's conclusion, featuring a red flare, solidified the April premiere, narrowing down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June). While the exact date remains undisclosed, the April launch is now confirmed.

While much of the new footage is familiar from previous teasers, fans have dissected the trailer for new details. Key additions include fresh shots of Dever's Abby and the aforementioned dance sequence. The opening alarm also triggered nostalgic chills for gamers. Speculation continues around Catherine O’Hara’s role, with some appreciating the trailer’s use of Roman numerals, mirroring the game sequel's styling.

Beyond O’Hara's mystery character, eagle-eyed viewers suspect another unannounced cast member. While Season 1 introduced original characters, anticipation builds for live-action portrayals of familiar faces from Part II, including Jesse and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon. The seven-episode season, shorter than Season 1's nine, indicates further creative liberties will be taken to expand upon the narrative and characters, as seen in the trailer's depiction of a therapy session for Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), absent from the game.
