However, co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that the game's sequel storyline might span three seasons, suggesting this adaptation won't be a complete retelling of The Last of Us Part II.

The trailer's conclusion, featuring a red flare, solidified the April premiere, narrowing down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June). Beyond O’Hara's mystery character, eagle-eyed viewers suspect another unannounced cast member. While Season 1 introduced original characters, anticipation builds for live-action portrayals of familiar faces from Part II, including Jesse and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon. The seven-episode season, shorter than Season 1's nine, indicates further creative liberties will be taken to expand upon the narrative and characters, as seen in the trailer's depiction of a therapy session for Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), absent from the game.
