Electronic Arts' football simulations frequently face criticism. Beyond monetization concerns, technical issues often come under scrutiny as well.
The backlash against EA Sports FC 25 has grown so severe that developers have implemented a "Gameplay Refresh Update" featuring over 50 mechanical improvements, including:
- Major overhauls to fundamental systems like assists, shooting, goalkeeping, and defensive play
- Fix for unrealistic defender catch-up scenarios that occurred too frequently
- More fluid attacking gameplay with improved ball movement
- Reduced AI interference through automatic slide tackles and interceptions
- Nerfed crossing effectiveness
- Better positional awareness from players in their natural roles
- Refined offside detection for AI-controlled attacking runs
- Slightly enhanced shooting accuracy for normal and finesse shots from outside the box in favorable conditions
At launch, EA FC 25 received only 36% positive reviews from its 474 player evaluations on Steam, mirroring predominantly negative early reception. Critics have particularly targeted:
- Electronic Arts' perceived aggressive monetization
- Numerous bugs and crashing issues
- Controller recognition problems with PlayStation devices
Furthermore, the game cannot be played on Steam Deck due to its anti-cheat system implementation.
