How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will unlock naturally as you progress through the quests given by the blacksmith Radovan. Once you've located the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He'll express his desire to craft a sword as a wedding gift, thus initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can engage with the hermit, you must first gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Start by visiting the tavern in Troskowitz and engaging with Innkeeper Betty, ensuring you exhaust all dialogue options. To gather more insights, converse with other villagers such as the alehouse maid and the general trader.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Next, seek out Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have seen the apparition. You can persuade her to share her knowledge either by offering a few Groschen or by successfully passing a dialogue check.

Afterward, travel to Apollonia to speak with Stanislav. Again, you'll need to either pass a dialogue check or pay him a small amount of Groschen to obtain the information you need.

Gather Evidence

With the necessary information in hand, it's time to collect concrete evidence. Head to the cross Gerda mentioned and dig up the grave to uncover some Groschen, along with documents and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free in nearby cemetery areas.

After examining the documents, proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia, where you'll find a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse to gain your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Approach the hermit's hut and engage in conversation with him. Note that without the evidence, he won't be forthcoming. Armed with your findings, he should be more willing to talk.

Choose these dialogue options:

  • "You’re suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit will then reveal that he is not Ambrose but Konrad. He'll ask you to visit a widow named Margaret at the cemetery near Apollonia and give her a cross. This initiates the Sinful Soul quest, which you can complete immediately by assisting Margaret in digging a grave for Ambrose, though this step is optional.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders. You now face the choice of aiding them in killing Konrad or helping Konrad escape.

Sneak to the hermit’s hut and inform Konrad that you've completed the task. Ask about the sword's location. At this juncture, you can decide to help Konrad or kill him. In my playthrough, I chose to kill Konrad as it's less challenging, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' assistance.

After Konrad's demise, discuss the situation with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Finally, travel north of the hermit’s hut to locate two intertwined oak trees. The hermit’s sword will be embedded in the ground there. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to conclude the Hermit quest.

By following these steps, you'll successfully obtain the hermit’s sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more guides and tips on the game, including the best perks and romance options, check out resources on The Escapist.
