Brawl Stars continues to evolve with fresh content, and the arrival of Buzz Lightyear marks a thrilling milestone as the game’s first limited-time brawler. Available exclusively until February 4th, Buzz brings a unique twist to the battlefield with his ability to switch between three distinct combat styles before each match. This level of versatility makes him a strong contender across various game modes, giving players an exciting challenge: mastering his different forms before he disappears from the roster.
Want to know how to unlock and play Buzz Lightyear? Or which game mode suits him best? We’ve got you covered. Let’s dive in.
Buzz Lightyear is a free limited-time brawler that can be purchased from the in-game Shop. Once unlocked, he comes fully powered up at Power Level 11, including his Gadget already unlocked. Unlike other brawlers, Buzz doesn't have access to Star Powers or Gears, but he does come equipped with a single Gadget—Turbo Boosters. This allows him to dash forward quickly, either to close the gap on an enemy or escape a dangerous situation.
His Hypercharge, Bravado, offers no passive bonus but temporarily boosts Buzz's stats for a short duration. Both this Hypercharge and his Gadget are usable across all three of his combat modes, making him highly adaptable depending on your strategy and the map you're playing on.
Below is a detailed breakdown of Buzz Lightyear’s three combat modes, including their respective attack and Super stats:
Mode | Image | Stats | Attack | Super |
---|---|---|---|---|
Laser Mode | ![]() |
Health: 6000 Movement Speed: Normal Damage: 2160 Range: Long Reload Speed: Fast |
Damage: 5 x 1000 Range: Long | - |
Saber Mode | ![]() |
Health: 8400 Movement Speed: Very Fast Damage: 2400 Range: Short Reload Speed: Normal |
Damage: 1920 Range: Long | - |
Wing Mode | ![]() |
Health: 7200 Movement Speed: Very Fast Damage: 2 x 2000 Range: Normal Reload Speed: Normal | - | - |
Each mode serves a specific purpose. Laser Mode dominates at long range, delivering consistent damage with a burn effect that wears down enemies over time. Saber Mode thrives in close-quarters combat, featuring high health and speed, making it ideal for aggressive playstyles. Lastly, Wing Mode acts as a hybrid option, effective when Buzz is mid-range to close-range against opponents.
Thanks to his flexible combat options, Buzz Lightyear performs well across multiple game modes. In tight maps like those found in Showdown, Gem Grab, and Brawl Ball, Saber Mode shines brightest. Its mobility and melee focus make Buzz a powerhouse in enclosed spaces, especially when combined with his ability to land on targeted spots using his Super.
Conversely, open-field maps such as those seen in Knockout and Bounty favor Laser Mode. His burning attacks apply constant pressure and prevent healing-focused brawlers from recovering, allowing Buzz to dominate engagements even while low on health. This makes him particularly effective in Trophy Events and the new Arcade Mode.
It’s important to note that Buzz Lightyear is not available in Ranked Mode, so players must complete his Mastery track through other game modes. As a limited-time brawler, his Mastery cap is set at 16,000 points—a realistic goal before he exits the game. Below are the rewards associated with each rank in Buzz’s Mastery track:
