NetEase Games plans to keep Marvel Rivals players engaged through consistent content updates. The development team aims to roll out updates approximately every six weeks, introducing two new heroes each quarter. This approach ensures fresh experiences for returning players.
Game director Guangyun Chen explained that seasonal updates will follow a two-phase release cycle. The first half of each season introduces one hero, while the second half brings another – maintaining continuous momentum for players.
This strategy isn't limited to characters alone. Marvel Rivals will expand with new maps, narrative elements, and gameplay objectives alongside hero additions. Among the rumored upcoming characters are Blade (currently unavailable) and Altron (revealed through leaks). The full Fantastic Four roster was also recently confirmed to join the battle.
Chinese outlet GameLook reported the title has generated approximately $100 million globally, with significant contributions from its home market. Marvel's strategic expansion into gaming marks a major shift for the entertainment giant, traditionally dominant in film.
Marvel Rivals successfully filled a gap in the live-service hero shooter genre following the disappointing performance of Square Enix's Avengers. NetEase's polished team-based shooter, featuring an expansive character roster, earned positive reception at launch – proving the franchise's potential in competitive gaming.
