A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's revamped gameplay and control systems, offering a fresh look at this dystopian action RPG. The core loop remains familiar: battle colossal mechanical creatures (Abductors), harvest their components, upgrade your gear, and tackle a variety of challenging missions. However, the remastered version boasts significant enhancements.
The game, originally a PlayStation Vita exclusive developed in part as a response to Sony losing exclusivity for the Monster Hunter series, features a similar gameplay loop to the popular franchise, albeit with a distinct futuristic setting. Players assume the role of a "Sinner," sentenced to perform missions for their Panopticon (city-state) to atone for the crime of being born. Missions vary, from rescuing citizens to eliminating Abductors and securing control systems, playable solo or cooperatively online.
The trailer highlights several key improvements. Visually, the game receives a significant upgrade, leaping from 544p to 4K resolution (2160p) on PS5 and PC, maintaining a smooth 60 frames per second (FPS). PS4 players can expect 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version targets 1080p at 30 FPS. Gameplay is faster and more fluid, thanks to enhanced movement speed and new attack cancellation mechanics.
Crafting and upgrading have been streamlined with more intuitive interfaces and the addition of attachable/detachable modules. A new module synthesis feature allows players to enhance these modules using resources obtained from rescued citizens. Finally, a challenging "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode caters to experienced players, and all original customization DLC from the PS Vita version is included from launch.
Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
