The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has solidified its status as a blockbuster hit of 2025, reaching the third spot on the U.S. best-selling games list just one week after its surprise release on April 22. With a peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam alone, the game's success extends beyond PC, as it's also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and through Game Pass. According to Mat Piscatella from Circana, Oblivion Remastered trails only behind Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows in dollar sales for 2025, a remarkable achievement considering its availability on subscription services is not included in these sales figures.

This triumph signals a promising future for more Bethesda game remasters. Rumors and leaks suggest that Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas could be next in line. Bruce Nesmith, a designer from Fallout 3, hinted at significant enhancements, particularly in gun combat, which he described as "not good" in the original game. Nesmith believes that a remaster would align the shooting mechanics more closely with those seen in Fallout 4, noting the substantial improvements made in that title.

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered boasts numerous visual and gameplay enhancements. It supports 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, but the improvements extend far beyond that. From revamped leveling systems and character creation to refined combat animations and in-game menus, the remaster introduces new dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. Fans have been so impressed by these changes that some consider it more of a remake than a remaster, though Bethesda insists it's a remaster. Nesmith himself has praised the remaster, suggesting it's akin to "Oblivion 2.0," surpassing even the latest graphical updates seen in Skyrim.

If Fallout 3 or New Vegas receives a similar treatment, players can expect comparable enhancements. Nesmith emphasized that the combat in Fallout 3 didn't match up to other shooters at the time and anticipated that a remaster would incorporate the improvements seen in Fallout 4, enhancing the RPG shooter experience significantly.

Bethesda's busy schedule includes work on The Elder Scrolls VI and possibly more content for Starfield, alongside ongoing projects like Fallout 76 and the Fallout TV show, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This flurry of activity promises an exciting future for Bethesda fans.
