With the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the gaming community is buzzing with anticipation about which Bethesda classic might be next in line for a remaster. Speculation points towards Fallout 3, especially after a leak in 2023 hinted at its potential remastering. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on the original Fallout 3, has shared insights on how Bethesda could enhance this beloved 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG.

Nesmith highlighted the need for improved gun combat in a Fallout 3 Remastered, acknowledging that the original game's shooting mechanics were "not good." He expects that a remaster would bring the shooting experience more in line with that of Fallout 4, which saw significant improvements in this area. Nesmith noted that Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first foray into shooter-style gameplay, and while the effort was commendable, the mechanics didn't quite measure up to contemporary shooters. He anticipates that the enhancements made in Fallout 4 would be incorporated into a Fallout 3 Remastered.

Looking at Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, we see a benchmark for what a remaster can achieve. It boasts 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, alongside a host of other improvements. These include revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. Additionally, new dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have been added, leading some fans to consider it more of a remake than a remaster. Bethesda has clarified their choice to pursue a remaster rather than a full remake.

Nesmith suggested that Fallout 3 Remastered would likely follow a similar path, incorporating not just visual upgrades but also gameplay enhancements akin to those seen in Oblivion Remastered. He praised the visual and gameplay updates in Oblivion Remastered, noting that it could be considered "Oblivion 2.0" due to its extensive improvements.

Bethesda is currently juggling multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, potential expansions for Starfield, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This flurry of activity promises an exciting future for fans of Bethesda's RPGs.
