SVC Chaos Gets a Surprise Port to PC, Switch and PS4

SVC Chaos, unexpectedly announced and released over the weekend, is now available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. This article explores the game's updated features, SNK's journey, and Capcom's future plans for crossover fighting games.

SNK and Capcom Revive SVC Chaos

SVC Chaos: Modern Enhancements on New Platforms

At EVO 2024, SNK surprised fighting game fans worldwide by announcing the return of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos. The announcement, further confirmed on Twitter (X), revealed the game's immediate availability on Steam, Switch, and PS4. Xbox players, unfortunately, are excluded from this release.

The re-released SVC Chaos features a robust roster of 36 characters from both SNK and Capcom franchises. Expect to see favorites like Terry and Mai (Fatal Fury), the Mars People (Metal Slug), Tessa (Red Earth), and Capcom icons Ryu and Ken (Street Fighter). This dream match-up blends nostalgia with modern improvements.

SVC Chaos: From Arcade Hit to Modern Re-Release

The return of SVC Chaos is significant; it's been over two decades since its 2003 debut. SNK's struggles in the early 2000s, including bankruptcy and acquisition by Aruze, along with difficulties transitioning from arcades to home consoles, contributed to the game's long absence.

Despite this, the dedicated fanbase persevered. The game's unique blend of characters and fast-paced gameplay left a lasting impact. This re-release celebrates that legacy and acknowledges the enduring fan support, making the classic accessible to a new generation.

Capcom's Vision for Crossover Fighting Games

In a recent Dexerto interview, Shuhei Matsumoto (producer of Street Fighter 6 and the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection) discussed Capcom's future crossover fighting game ambitions. He expressed interest in developing a new Marvel vs. Capcom or a new Capcom/SNK title, acknowledging the significant time and effort such projects would require.

Matsumoto emphasized Capcom's current focus: "What we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have had the opportunity to play them on modern platforms." He highlighted the importance of reintroducing these classics to pave the way for future collaborations.

Regarding the re-release of past Marvel titles, Matsumoto explained years of discussions with Marvel, culminating in the right timing and shared interests to bring these games back. He noted that community-driven tournaments like those at EVO played a vital role in reigniting interest, setting the stage for these legacy games' return to modern platforms.
