Xbox MindsEye Update Delayed at Launch

MindsEye, the highly anticipated action-adventure title from Grand Theft Auto creator Leslie Benzies, launches today across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. However, Xbox players will face an unexpected delay in receiving the crucial day-one patch.

Developer Build A Rocket Boy confirmed on Reddit last night that due to "platform certification variations," the 16GB update won't be available immediately on Microsoft's consoles, despite being labeled as "essential" for the intended gameplay experience.

"This update contains vital final tweaks," the studio explained, including "gameplay refinements, visual enhancements, stability improvements and performance optimizations." While PlayStation and PC players receive the patch at launch, Xbox users must wait - with no confirmed timeframe beyond "as soon as possible."

Why the Patch Matters

This same update previously led Build A Rocket Boy to advise fans against playing early copies that surfaced last week. Unpatched versions sparked criticism, with some players calling the pre-release build a "technical disaster."

The studio previously stated: "We want everyone to experience the narrative simultaneously at launch, without preconceptions." This philosophy now creates an uneven experience, as Xbox players must choose between waiting or playing an unoptimized version.

Controversial Claims Surface

The mention of "bias" in the studio's communications revived earlier comments from co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who suggested coordinated efforts by paid accounts to damage the game's reputation. When questioned by IGN, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak dismissed these claims: "The game's quality will speak for itself upon release."

A Transformed Development Journey

MindsEye's path to launch has been unconventional. Initially conceived as an episodic component for the now-shelved Everywhere platform, the project evolved into a full narrative experience. While retaining some creation tools from its metaverse origins, the focus has shifted decisively to its single-player campaign.

Players assume the role of Jacob Diaz, a former military drone operator whose neural implant technology has fractured his psyche. The psychological thriller challenges players to reconstruct Diaz's memories and uncover disturbing truths.
