CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new regions and monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following The Game Awards 2024, Gamertag Radio's Parris interviewed The Witcher 4's director, Sebastian Kalemba, and executive producer, Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024). The interview confirmed the introduction of previously unseen areas and creatures.
Ciri's journey will lead players to unexplored territories on The Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as "Stromford," a place where a disturbing ritual involves the sacrifice of young girls to appease their "god."
This "god," revealed to be a monster named "Bauk," is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying adversary, a "tricky bastard" that instills fear in its victims. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a host of other new monstrous encounters.
While enthusiastic about the new additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a fresh and exciting experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A Skill UP interview (December 15, 2024) with Kalemba and Mitręga confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Stromford's location in the far north suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's previous explorations.
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted advancements in NPC development. Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the increased diversity shown in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba explained their commitment to giving "every single NPC" a unique backstory and life, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a secluded village will further shape these interactions.
CD Projekt Red is enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience. While details remain scarce, improved NPC interactions promise a richer and more believable game world.
